They are the protagonists of Giuseppe Verdi's Otello that Rai Cultura proposes from the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino on Monday 30 November at 9.15 pm. The opera was born from Verdi's understanding with Arrigo Boito, under the sign of Shakespeare. The first performance took place in Milan, at La Scala in 1887. At the age of seventy-four, with an eye to the previous operatic tradition, and one leaning towards Wagnerian innovations, Verdi was able to create one of his greatest masterpieces, which together with the subsequent Falstaff the culmination of his creative parable. "I focused on the family drama between Othello and Desdemona - says director Valerio Binasco - It is a heartbreaking love drama, which takes place in a war zone. There is a continuous oscillation between a great story: Venice, Cyprus, Othello as archetype, and the smaller one of a husband and wife, both of whom suffer from one of the strangest and most atrocious evils that can affect a couple, "too much love", wrong love, victims of the worst demon that there exists that it is love. Othello is a man who knows how to win wars but cannot win the power of love within the home ". The sets are by Guido Fiorato, the costumes by Gianluca Falaschi, the lights by Pasquale Mari. In the cast, in addition to Fabio Sartori (Otello), Marina Rebeka (Desdemona) and Luca Salsi (Jago), also Riccardo Della Sciucca (Cassio), Caterina Piva (Emilia), Alessio Cacciamani (Lodovico), Francesco Pittari (Roderigo), Francesco Milanese (Montano) and Francesco Samuele Venuti (A herald). The choir and the children's choir are directed by Lorenzo Fratini. The television direction is by Claudia De Toma.
